As part of Rayleigh’s Inclusive Dementia Community accreditation the Megacentre is hosting a FREE Alzheimer’s Society ‘Dementia Friends’ session/talk, which provides an opportunity to find out more about dementia and for attendees to ask questions.
Why is dementia so important?
A person is formally diagnosed with dementia approx. every 3 minutes in the UK, it is also currently projected that 2 out of 3 of us will be affected by dementia at some point during our lifetime.
It is estimated that 57m people live with dementia in the world, with this figure set to increase threefold over the next 30 years.
Dementia is one of the most critical issues for health providers, government and society in general.
The Dementia Friends Session
The talk is aimed at all service providers, businesses, carers, people living with the early to mid-stages of dementia and anyone interested in knowing more about this disease. It will cover some of the key issues faced by people living with dementia, their loved ones and carers. The session will enable attendees to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of dementia and for participants to become a recognised ‘Dementia Friend’.
The talk will also provide an opportunity for questions and joint learning and to discuss the Essex “Inclusive Dementia Communities” approach to supporting people affected by dementia to live well in their community.
